CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced Clearfield County’s Fugitive of the Week for the week of February 26, 2018.

Shaw identified the Fugitive as Jane Gearhart, age 62, of 5th Street, Clearfield, Pennsylvania.

Shaw stated that Gearhart is wanted for failure to appear at Preliminary Hearings held on February 21, 2018, at which time a warrants were issued for her arrest.

On January 2, 2018, Officer Mitchell Klender of the Clearfield Borough Police Department, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Gearhart with: 1) Simple Assault, M2; and Harassment, S. In a separate incident, Officer Daniel Podliski of the Clearfield Borough Police Department, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Gearhart with: 1) Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, M; and a traffic violation.

An Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by Officer Klender states that on December 25, 2017, Officers were dispatched for the report of an assault. Upon arriving on scene, Officers made contact with the victim who relayed that she has been allowing Gearhart and another individual to stay at her residence; however, upon observing Gearhart and the other individual to be under the influence of a controlled substance, the victim confronted them about drug usage, which caused the altercation. During the altercation, the victim advised that Gearthart had struck her with a tree branch while the other individual struck the victim with the side of a shotgun. The two then fled the scene.

About an hour later, while on routine patrol, Officer Podliski observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle also matched the description of the vehicle to be driven by Gearhart who was involved in the assault earlier in the day. Upon making contact with the operator, identified as Gearhart, she was questioned regarding the earlier assault complaint. At that time, signs of impairment were detected and Gearhart was transported to the Clearfield Borough Police Department to perform field sobriety test in which further signs of impairment were detected. Subsequently, Gearhart was transported to the Clearfield Hospital for a blood draw.

Preliminary Hearings were held on February 21, 2018, at which time Gearhart failed to appear and a warrants were issued for her arrest.
