DA SHAW: TRAINING PROVIDED TO FIRST RESPONDERS OF CHILD ABUSE

CLEARFIELD- Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced today that the Pennsylvania Chapter of CACs & MDTs in collaboration with the Child Advocacy Center of Clearfield County (CAC-CC) provided Minimal Facts training to first responders, and professionals who work directly with children within Clearfield County.

Shaw reported that the training was designed by the PA Chapter of CACs &MDTs to help counties throughout Pennsylvania better understand the importance of having a trained professional conduct the Minimal Facts Interview of a child. Shaw stated that Minimal Facts Interviews conducted by trained professionals helps to protect disclosure, avoid interview duplication, reduce trauma, reduce taint, protect evidence, and ensure Best Practice interventions for alleged child abuse victims.

Shaw stated that there was representation from Lawrence Township Police Department, Clearfield Borough Police Department, State Police- Troop C, Sandy Township Police Department, Clearfield County Children, Youth, and Family Services, CenClear, Clearfield County League on Social Services, Community Action Inc., The Crossroads Project, PASSAGES, Inc., Clearfield County Victim Witness, Glendale School District, and Safe Haven. Shaw thanked Connie Miller and Mikele Bay for providing this training to Clearfield County. Shaw thanked the CAC-CC for coordinating and hosting this training event.

Shaw thanked everyone that took time from their busy schedules to be in attendance for this vital training.  “We trained over 50 professionals within Clearfield County who work directly with the children of our county, to know what to do when a child is disclosing abuse”.
