DA SHAW REPORTS SUSPECTS IN CLEARFIELD BOROUGH SHOOTING HAVE BEEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced today that two suspects wanted in connection with the September 5th shooting at the “Laundry Station” have been taken into custody.
Shaw reported that David J. Clark, 35, and Amanda E. Carfley, 29, were taken into custody after an intense search conducted in Clearfield Borough and the Frenchville area of Clearfield County.
Shaw said the search initially focused on several locations in Clearfield Borough. As officers gathered more information, they quickly focused on the town of Frenchville. Early this morning, deputy marshals and State Police observed David Clark traveling on a 4 wheeler vehicle on River Road. Officers gave chase and Clark was eventually taken into custody on Gormont Road. The search for Carfley continued. Later this morning a State Trooper patrolling along Deer Creek Road observed Carfley and she was taken into custody without incident.
Clark and Carfley were turned over to Clearfield Borough Police and will be taken before Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland for arraignment on the charges.
On September 8, 2016, Patrolman David Fye, of the Clearfield Borough Police Department, filed a criminal complaint charging Clark with: 1) Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder of the First Degree; 2) Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Murder of the First Degree, 3) Aggravated Assault; 4) Simple Assault; 5) Recklessly Endangering Another Person; and 6) Possession of Weapon of a Crime.
In a separate criminal complaint, Carfley was charged with 1) Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Murder of the First Degree; 2) Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault; 3) Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Simple Assault; and 4) Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
An affidavit of probable cause filed by Fye states that at approximately 6:45 a.m. on September 5, 2016, officers from the Clearfield Borough Police Department were dispatched to the “Laundry Station,” located on South Third Street in Clearfield Borough, for a report of a male who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers observed a male on the floor who was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his left buttock. The victim reported that he was in the bathroom of the “Laundry Station” when the door was opened and a single gunshot from a handgun was fired. The victim was flown by medical helicopter to the Altoona Hospital for treatment.
Surveillance footage was obtained and displayed a male and female walking toward the “Laundry Station” carrying a clothes basket. The male entered the “Laundry Station” and walked toward the bathroom. The video further shows the male fleeing from the bathroom area and holding what appears to be a handgun. The male exits the building and flees with the female. Through further investigation, officers identified the male as David Clark and the female as his girlfriend, Amanda Carfley.
Shaw thanked the Clearfield Borough Police, the United States Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Lawrence Township Police, the Clearfield Department of Emergency Services, Heaven Scent Search & Rescue, and K9 Team Liberty Search and Recovery for their efforts in apprehending the wanted fugitives.
