DA SHAW REPORTS HOMICIDE CHARGES FILED FOR MORRIS TOWNSHIP SHOOTING

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced today that homicide charges have been filed against a Hawk Run man for an October 30th shooting that occurred in Morris Township, Clearfield County.

Shaw identified the defendant as Dustin Tyler Thomas, age 27, of Glastonbury Street, Hawk Run, Pennsylvania.

On November 1, 2017, Trooper Matthew Gray of the Pennsylvania State Police, Woodland Barracks, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Thomas with: 1) Criminal Homicide, F; 2) Aggravated Assault, F2; 3) Simple Assault, M2; and 4) Recklessly Endangering Another Person, M2.

An affidavit of probable cause filed by Gray states that on October 30th at approximately 8:30 pm the State Police were dispatched to a residence on Bass Lane in Morris Township for a reported shooting.  Upon arrival, officers observed a deceased male who was later identified as Brett Bamat, age 30.  Upon investigation, a witness reported observing Thomas and Bamat arguing. Thomas displayed a handgun and reportedly fired a single shot that struck and killed Bamat.  Thomas fled the scene and was later apprehended by the State Police without incident at his residence in Hawk Run.

Shaw reported that Thomas was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Gerome Nevling who incarcerated Thomas in the Clearfield County Jail without bond.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 6, 2017.

Shaw stated that the State Police did an excellent job in locating and taking Thomas into custody without incident.  Shaw said, “this was a dangerous situation and the police did an outstanding job in safely resolving the issue.”
