DA SHAW: HOMICIDE CHARGES FILED FOR MAHAFFEY STABBING DEATH

MAHAFFEY – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced today that charges have been filed against a Mahaffey woman for the stabbing death of a 58-year-old Mahaffey man.

Shaw identified the defendant as Kayce Marie Lee, 31 of Ridge Road, Mahaffey, Pennsylvania

On February 5, 2018, Trooper Seth Rupp of the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop – C, Punxsutawney Headquarters, filed a criminal complaint charging Lee with:  1) Criminal Homicide; 2) Aggravated Assault; 3) Simple Assault; and 4) Harassment.

An affidavit of probable cause file by Rupp states that on February 4th at approximately 7:40 pm, the State Police received a call reporting the victim, identified as Richard Allen Bennett, 58, of Ridge Road, Mahaffey, as missing since 1:00 am when he fled his residence following an altercation with the Defendant.  It was also reported that the Defendant believed she may have stabbed Bennett. At approximately 11:43 pm on the same day, officers discovered Bennett laying face down approximately thirty feet from the residence.  Bennett was wearing only white brief style underwear and a long sleeve thermal shirt.  Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Coroner, Kim Shaffer.

Lee was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge, James Glass.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 14, 2018.  Lee is being held in the Clearfield County Jail without bond.

Shaw thanked the Pennsylvania State Police for their efforts in resolving this case in timely manner.
