SHAW ANNOUNCES CHARGES FILED IN DUI HOMICIDE CASE Monday, 31 October 2011 Leonard Dumin CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced today that Homicide by Vehicle while Driving Under the Influence and related charges have been filed against a Imler man. Shaw identified the defendant as Leonard Dumin, age 49, of Natures Symphony Road, Imler, Pennsylvania. On October 26, 2011, Trooper David Patrick of the Pennsylvania State Police, Clearfield Barracks, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Dumin with: 1) Homicide By Vehicle While Driving Under the Influence, F2; 2) Aggravated Assault By Vehicle While Driving Under the Influence, F2, 2 Counts; 3) Recklessly Endangering Another Person, M2, 2 Counts; 4) Driving Under the Influence, M; 5) Reckless Driving, S; 6) Careless Driving, S; 7) Driving On Roadways Laned for Traffic, S; and 8) Restriction on Alcoholic Beverages, S. An Affidavit of Probable Cause filed with the complaint provides that on July 1, 2011, the Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched to the scene of a two vehicle crash on State Route 53 in Irvona Borough. At the scene of the accident, Troopers made contact with Dumin, and detected signs of impairment. Dumin was transported to the Altoona Hospital for medical treatment. The investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police resulted in a finding that the vehicle operated by Dumin had crossed over the center line and struck another vehicle head on. The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries. A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for November 23, 2011. Shaw noted that complaints of this nature are extremely troubling and every effort must be made to investigate and prosecute this type of behavior. Shaw further elaborated that "Drinking and driving has the unavoidable consequence of costing people their lives. This is an unnecessary and absolutely avoidable tragedy that we are working very hard to prevent." Shaw also stated that he was very pleased with the investigation conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police in this matter.
