CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.

Shaw identified the Fugitive as Melissa Custer, age 39, of Main Street, Brockway, Pennsylvania.

Custer was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on January 17, 2011.

On August 2, 2010,  Officer Shawn Bloom of the DuBois City Police Department, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Custer with Retail Theft, F3.

An Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by Bloom states that on July 29, 2010, the DuBois City Police were dispatched to a DuBois business for a report of a retail theft.  Video surveillance showed Custer concealing merchandise and attempting to leave the business without paying for the items.

A Preliminary Hearing was scheduled for September 14, 2010, at which time all charges were held for Court. On October 13, 2010, Custer failed to appear for Arraignment Court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Shaw stated that an anonymous tip to the Clearfield County Crimestoppers provided the location of Custer. On May 21, 2011, Officers from the Sandy Township Police Department apprehended Custer, and she was taken into custody without incident. Shaw acknowledged that Custer was apprehended five months after first being listed as a "Fugitive of the Week" and that the successful capture of Custer was the direct result of citizens willing to provide information to law enforcement.

Shaw thanked the Sandy Township Police Department and the Clearfield County Sheriff's Office for their hard work and assistance with this case.
