Matthew R. Durland CLEARFIELD - Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.
Shaw identified the Fugitive as Matthew R. Durland, age 43, of Laceyville, Pennsylvania.
Durland was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on December 6, 2010.
On May 11, 2010, Trooper Arnold Stutsman of the Pennsylvania State Police, DuBois Barracks, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Durland with: 1) Driving Under the Influence, M1; 2) Driving While Operating Privilege is Suspended or Revoked, S; 3) Driver's Required to Be Licensed, S; 4) Carrying and Exhibiting Driver's License on Demand, S; and 5) Vehicular Hazard Signal Lamps, S.
An Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by Trooper Stutsman states that on March 13, 2010, a vehicle was stopped along the right berm on Interstate 80 near milemarker 100 Eastbound. The vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder, was observed to have no lights illuminated. Upon approaching the vehicle Stutsman found Durland asleep in the rear seat. After several attempts Durland was awoken by Trooper Stutsman, and Durland was unable to produce his driver's license.
Upon observing Durland, Stutsman detected signs of intoxication and requested that Durland perform standard field sobriety tests. After administering the field sobriety tests, Durland was transported to the DuBois Regional Medical Center for blood testing.
A Preliminary Hearing was held on June 18, 2010, at which time all charges were held to court. On November 18, 2010, Durland failed to appear at Criminal Call and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Shaw stated that an anonymous tip to the Clearfield County Crimestoppers provided the location of Durland. On December 21, 2010, Constables from Luzerne County located Durland and he was taken into custody without incident. Durland is currently lodged in the Wyoming County jail.
Shaw thanked the law enforcement agencies from Luzerne County and Wyoming County for their hard work and assistance with this case.
