DA Bill Shaw Speaks to Students
CLEARFIELD- On September 15, 2010, Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., participated in Clearfield County’s 4th Annual Progressive Agriculture Safety Day. This one-day event teaches children safety and health lessons that can keep them and those around them safe and healthy in school and at home.

Present at the event were nearly 300 second grade students and teachers from eight (8) Clearfield County schools including: Bradford Elementary, Centre Elementary, Clearfield Alliance Christian, Clearfield Elementary, Curwensville Elementary, Girard-Goshen Elementary, Penn-Grampian Elementary, & St. Francis. There were fourteen (14) safety-related stations on the topics of: Gun Safety, Bullying, Crime Stoppers, Hand Washing, Lyme Disease, Tobacco Prevention, First Aid, Disability Awareness, Poison Look-a-Likes, Seatbelt/Car Seat Safety, Amusement Park Safety, Bicycle/Helmet Safety, PA One Call, and Electric Safety.

Shaw’s station focused on bullying, where he counseled students on the importance of bystanders standing up for those who are being bullied. Shaw particularly focused on having the students stand up to bullies in a group, and demonstrated to the students how to have a "buddy" on each side of them when attempting to stop bullying that’s taking place. Shaw also stressed the importance of reporting bullying to an adult at school as well as an adult at home.
