Chief Fink, Supervisor Lawhead, DA Bill Shaw, Jr.

Shaw stated that the second draw-down of funds has been distributed from the JAG grant received by Clearfield County in the spring of 2009.  Shaw reported that his office administers the JAG grant for Clearfield County.  In August 2009, Shaw was notified that Clearfield County was awarded $60,224.00 in Recovery Act funds.

Shaw presented Lawrence Township Police Chief, Jeff Fink, and Lawrence Township Supervisor, William Lawhead, with a check in the amount of $28, 583.00 to enable the Lawrence Township Police Department to purchase a new police vehicle.

Shaw said the grant award is designed to help municipal police departments purchase new police cruisers.  Shaw stated that "without the grant funds, it is unlikely the municipalities would have the resources to make the necessary purchases without considering downsizing".  Police protection is extremely important and we all need to work together to recognize and maximize opportunities for obtaining funding, Shaw said.  Shaw further noted that the purchase of police vehicles will assist local auto dealers and suppliers of police equipment, as well as the auto industry in general.

Chief Fink stated that "the grant money comes at a time when it is badly needed".  Fink noted that "budget concerns make it difficult to purchase necessary equipment and we can certainly use these funds".

Township Supervisor, William Lawhead, stated that it is becoming increasingly more difficult to provide quality police protection in a fiscally responsible manner.  Lawhead said that "the safety of our officers is very important and these funds will enable us to purchase a new police cruiser for the department's use". 

Both Fink and Lawhead thanked Shaw for his work in obtaining and administering the JAG grant.  Fink stated that DA Bill Shaw is "always working to find new methods and opportunities to fund law enforcement operations and this money will go far to assist the Lawrence Township Police Department".
