Daniel Duane Dotts CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced today that charges have been filed against a Glenn Richey man for an armed robbery that occurred at the Woodward Pharmacy in Houtzdale, Pennsylvania.
Shaw identified the defendant as Daniel Duane Dotts, age 27, of Glenn Richey, Pennsylvania.
On March 26, 2010, Trooper Thomas Granville, of the Pennsylvania State Police, Woodland Barracks, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Dotts with: 1) Robbery, F1; 2) Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, F; 3) Possession of a Controlled Substance, M; 4) Theft by Unlawful Taking, M1; 5) Simple Assault, M2; and 6) Recklessly Endangering Another Person, M2.
An affidavit of probable cause filed by Granville states that at approximately 12:31 am on March 18, 2010, Dotts entered the Woodward Pharmacy located in Houtzdale, Clearfield County, wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie with the Pittsburgh Steelers logo. The hood was up and Dotts had a camouflage bandana covering his face. Dotts walked to the front desk and pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded Oxycontins. Dotts then walked through the pharmacy where a separate clerk handed him the controlled substance. Dotts then fled on foot and ran to a vehicle parked nearby. The vehicle was described as a dark grey Chevrolet Cavalier. After receiving information that Dotts may have been involved with the Robbery, Granville conducted interviews of witnesses that resulted in the charges being filed against Dotts.
Dotts was arraigned before District Magisterial Judge James Hawkins, who set Dotts' bail at $500,000.00. Hawkins scheduled Dotts for a preliminary hearing to occur on March 31, 2009, at centralized court. Dotts remains incarcerated in the Clearfield County Jail.
Shaw credited the State Police with "an extremely intensive investigation". Shaw said "this type of crime is not going to be tolerated in Clearfield County" and was pleased with the rapid response by the State Police. Shaw noted that "Trooper Granville and the State Police worked very hard to identify and charge Dotts". Shaw also pointed out that "we received a volume of anonymous tips about this case". Shaw said "this case is an example of how community involvement can absolutely help law enforcement solve crime". "When community members are willing to pick up the phone or send an e-mail with information about crime, the ability to solve criminal investigations is greatly enhanced", Shaw said.
