DUBOIS – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr. announced today that a man charged with two DuBois robberies has been sentenced after tendering a plea of guilty to the charges.
Shaw identified the defendant as Michael D. Myers, age 24, of Treasure Lake, DuBois, PA. Myers is currently housed in the Clearfield County Jail awaiting transfer to a state prison. On March 20, 2007, officer Randy Young of the DuBois City Police Department filed a criminal complaint charging Myers with the February 28, 2007, robbery of the Uni-Mart store located at 2 North Main Street in the City of DuBois. The same complaint also charged Myers with the March 7, 2007, robbery of the Choice store located at 100 West DuBois Avenue. Following a joint investigation by the DuBois City and Sandy Township Police Departments, Myers was located in Oregon state where he was being held by officials on unrelated charges. Shaw stated that a Clearfield County arrest warrant was transmitted to Oregon and the District Attorney's office extradited Myers back to Clearfield to answer the charges filed by Officer Young.
On March 5, 2008, President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman sentenced Myers to a minimum of four years and a maximum of eight years in state prison for the two robbery charges. Myers received a five year period of probation for a charge of criminal conspiracy. Myers further received a concurrent two year period or probation for an unrelated case where Myers plead guilty for a theft that occurred on February 27, 2007, at the Clarion Inn, in Sandy Township. Myers was also sentenced on two separate charges of criminal mischief that occurred on November 16th and 18th, 2006. Ammerman sentenced Myers to concurrent periods of probation for these charges. Prior to being sentenced, Myers stated that he wanted to "apologize to the community, the victims, and my family" for the trouble caused. Myers stated that he took full responsibility for his actions. In response, Ammerman informed Myers that he would have to pay a "heavy price" for his crimes. Shaw stated that he was pleased with the outcome and stated the "sentence should send a message to others considering this type of criminal behavior". Shaw said that "robbery is a very serious crime and the consequences are severe". Shaw further thanked the DuBois City Police, Sandy Township Police, and the Oregon State Police for their cooperation during the investigation and prosecution of these cases |
