CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.

Shaw identified the Fugitive as Shawn Ortasic, age 26, of Nichols Street, Clearfield, Pennsylvania.

Ortasic was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on September 12, 2016.

Shaw stated that Ortasic is wanted for failure to appear at a Preliminary Hearing held on September 7, 2016, at which time a warrant was issued for his arrest. In a separate case, Ortasic is wanted to failure to appear at Sentencing on September 7, 2016.

On July 27, 2016, Officer Daniel Podliski of the Clearfield Borough Police Department, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Ortasic with: 1) Endangering the Welfare of Children, M1, 2 counts; and 2) Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, M.

An Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by Officer Podliski states that on July 19, 2016, Officers were dispatched to a residence to check on the welfare of children. Upon arrival, Officer Podliski made contact with a male, identified as Ortasic. At that time, Officer Podliski observed garbage outside of the residence and detected an odor of animal waste coming from within the residence. Upon receiving permission to enter the residence, Officer Podliski observed deplorable living conditions. In addition, Officer Podliski observed drug paraphernalia within a room where the children slept.

A Preliminary Hearing was held on September 7, 2016, at time Ortasic failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

In a separate case, Officer Joseph Witherite of the Curwensville Borough Police Department, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Ortasic with: 1) Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, M; and 2) Disorderly Conduct, M3.

An Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by Officer Witherite states that on October 31, 2015, he and another Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. Upon making contact with the occupants, including Ortasic, numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia were observed throughout the vehicle. Further contact with Ortasic revealed drug paraphernalia on his person.

A Preliminary Hearing was held on December 30, 2015, at which time all charges were held for court. On September 7, 2016, Ortasic failed to appear at Sentencing Court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Shaw stated that on September 14, 2016, Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to Ortasic’s last known address. Upon arrival, Deputies were given permission to enter the residence. While inside the residence, Deputies noticed movement in the basement. A search of the basement was conducted by the Deputies and Ortasic was found to be hiding in the basement. Ortasic is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.

Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this case.
